Inflammation: The Real Killer

The Coaching Pair“There is a surprising link between heart attacks, cancer, Alzheimer’s and other diseases.”  Alex Howard

They have no struggles; their bodies are healthy and strong.  (Psa. 73:4; NIV)

Inflammation is a HOT topic. [pun intended] Most of the nutrition newsletters, magazines, and articles I’m reading touch on the subject of inflammation. Just doing a quick Internet search on inflammation brought up 26,100,000 entries!

Disorders such as arthritis, MS, fibromyalgia, osteoporosis, diabetes, and even obesity are correlated with chronic inflammation within the body. Today’s many chemical exposures along with the modern diet and lifestyle are the main contributors to this “smoldering situation.”

Your Bread May Be Damaging Your Thyroid

The Coaching Pair“Bromides are a common endocrine disruptor. Because bromide is also a halide, it competes for the same receptors that are used in the thyroid gland (among other places) to capture iodine.”  mercola.com

How aware are you of the bromide in your environment?

Stolen bread tastes sweet, but it turns to gravel in the mouth.   (Prov. 20:17; NLT)

I recently tuned into a webinar done by Dr. Moira Dolan who was teaching about the thyroid gland. Who doesn’t know someone who struggles with thyroid issues? Thyroid issues are becoming as common as type 2 diabetes. I’ve done serious study of the thyroid during the past several years and am still learning about this tiny yet crucial piece of tissue.

Why I Won’t Get the Flu Shot

The Coaching Pair

“Of particular concern to me is the link between vaccination and chronic brain inflammation.”  Dr. Russell Blaylock

How knowledgeable are you about the flu vaccine?

They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator– who is forever praised. Amen.  (Romans 1:25; NIV)

I am well aware of the mountains of material being written about the flu shot from both sides of the fence.  I’m sure it comes as no surprise to our readers that neither Jerry nor I will be getting a flu shot.   I educate my clients on why they should NOT get a flu shot.  I’ve not written about this subject before now simply because of the mass of the information available.  To distill the information down to a bite-sized post seems rather daunting.  However, in case there is someone who still isn’t aware of the dangers of the flu vaccine, be forewarned and forearmed.

Dr. Joseph Mercola has done an outstanding job of educating the public, if they will avail themselves of the information.  Mike Adams of Natural News has also published valuable information.  Dr. Russell Blaylock, a brilliant board-certified neurosurgeon continues to speak out on the dangers of the flu vaccine.  I wish I could download all of his information into everyone’s home.  It is not only scientific but very sound and informative.

Many recent neuroscience studies have shown a link between vaccination and brain inflammation that can last for years and even decades.  Dr. Blaylock explains that vaccines cause a stimulation of the immune system which in turn causes chronic activation of the microglial cells in the brain.  This results in the release of powerful, inflammatory excitoxins and cytokines that causes prolonged damage to the brain–a sort of smoldering encephalitis.  This explains the link between seizures, autism spectrum disorders and encephalitis associated with certain vaccines.

On a personal note, years ago when I went off to nursing school, healthy and robust, I had to receive many vaccines before entering school.  That first winter of school found me more ill than I had ever been in my entire young life.  I was on antibiotics more than I was off of them.  Constant, chronic upper respiratory infections ensued; prescribed antibiotics followed by secondary infections due to complications from the antibiotics became the norm.  By the spring of my first year I was diagnosed with mononucleosis and sent home to recuperate for several weeks.  The saga continued.  In my twenties I dealt with frequent “strep” throat infections, upper respiratory infections, yeast infections and digestive difficulties.  Then in my early thirties after having received more environmental onslaughts my immune system became so damaged that we didn’t know if I would live or ever lead a normal life again.  The following fifteen years was a dark time of climbing out of a pit that began from vaccines.

It wasn’t until years later that I learned from a very wise doctor that the vaccines had damaged my immune system.  He actually said, “Oh, you were never well since vaccines…NWSV.”  Since that time there has been a tremendous amount of information published on the dangers of vaccines and what they do to the body.  Suffice it to say, I will not be getting the flu shot.

Stay tuned and next time, I’ll talk about what and how you can strengthen your own immune system so that you can stay healthy (naturally) this winter.

Father, thank You for the knowledge and grace that You offer to us.  May we seek Your truth in caring for our bodies.

Why Dr. Mercola Sells Products on His Website

“After all, my health recommendations go against the conventional grain, and frequently contradict the long-term benefit and interest of many multi-national, multi-billion-dollar corporations that don’t want the truth to be told. So they frequently generate frivolous lawsuits to harass and intimidate me from sharing what I know.”  Dr. Joseph Mercola

What are your thoughts and feelings when you see someone selling products on their blog or website?  Why?

A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.  (Prov. 11:25; NIV)

I know that Dr. Joseph Mercola can sometimes be like anchovies…you either love ‘em or hate ‘em.  Many people find him extremely controversial and even abrasive.  However, he has done more to educate the general public on living a healthy lifestyle than perhaps anyone else on the Internet.  He recently wrote a post explaining why he sells products on his site.

I am one of the “few” that remembers when he first began his site and when he didn’t offer any products for sale.  His information was rich…and free.  I learned a great deal from him that I wasn’t learning in my nutrition textbooks.  After a while, I did begin to wonder how he was able to offer all of that information at no cost to the reader.  Then, when he began selling products, I was a bit taken aback.  At first I thought it seemed to cheapen the site.  Someone was doing some heavy duty marketing it seemed.

Those of you who read our blogs are well aware that I continue to read and use Dr. Mercola’s site to this day.  It was with great interest that I read his post on why he sells products.  Allow me to share some of the high points for those of you who aren’t able to read his article.  Dr. Mercola spent nearly twenty-five years seeing over 25,000 patients and using a variety of natural therapies and observing the effectiveness of those therapies.  He believed that many people would benefit from what he learned, so he began sharing it online.  (He also has a passion for technology as well.)

He says he put everything he had learned on the site.  “There weren’t any ’secrets’ that I would share with someone that would see me as a private patient that wouldn’t already be on the website.”  However, even though he was the only employee and he didn’t draw a salary, it cost him more than $500,000 to keep the site up and running for the first three years.

Dr. Mercola writes, “A couple of obvious options were to start using paid advertising, or get investors. But I didn’t want to be limited in sharing my view of health truths, and I didn’t want to be handcuffed to endorse anything I didn’t truly believe in.  So my last option was to sell products that I personally believe in and can comfortably endorse.”

This certainly sheds a different light on the subject of selling products on a site.  Even though I don’t have near the knowledge or influence as Dr. Mercola, there have been times when I’ve wondered how I too could earn income on what I do share.  I freely share information with many.  And just like I didn’t understand Dr. Mercola’s need to sell products on his site, I know there are people who don’t understand why I would need to earn income on what I share and recommend.  However, Jerry and I have begun offering a few items on our website that we highly recommend and totally believe in (and use ourselves).  We hope you will understand.

Prayer Power
Father, thank You for Your wisdom and knowledge that You give to us.  May we each be responsible to do with it what is best for the Kingdom of God.

Are You Tweeting?

“The qualities that make Twitter seem inane and half-baked are what make it so powerful.”  Jonathan Zittrain

Riddle: How can 140 characters change the world?  Answer…read on.

Intelligent people are always open to new ideas. In fact, they look for them.  (Prov. 18:15; NLT)

Are you using Twitter?  I can hear some of you asking, “What’s Twitter?”  In a sentence, Twitter is a micro-blog.  In other words, it’s like a blog in many ways but each blog post is limited to 140 characters.  That’s not very many.  But that’s apparently enough to change the world.

Catch the title of today’s link, “Could the Use of Social Media Crush ‘Big Brother’?”  Note the author…Dr. Joseph Mercola.  Most of you recognize that Dr. Mercola has one of the most widely read web sites in the world on issues that pertain to health.  Yet Twitter even has Dr. Mercola all “a twitter.”  He points to the recent unrest in Iran that was (and is) largely kept alive via Twitter as described in an important article that appeared in The New York Times on June 15 that describes how Twitter has become a major factor in bringing power to the people.

Social media such as Twitter and Facebook is changing the world in ways that we don’t begin to understand.  This is no longer just a toy.  This is at the forefront of a major revolution in politics, medicine, news reporting, marketing, et al.  It is widely speculated that a great deal of President Obama’s election success was due to his campaign’s use of social media.  It is reported that there were 300 tweets per second during his inauguration.  (A tweet is a message sent or a blog posted on Twitter.)

Dr. Mercola’s blog (today’s link) asserts that social media was the vehicle used by several well-respected leaders in the alternative health field as they “outed” or exposed the fear-mongering tactics used to create a panic over swine flu.

Everywhere you look, Twitter is changing things.  Don’t get left behind.  Join the Twitter revolution.

This Won’t Be Popular!

“But far worse for your health than tight or ill-fitting bras is the most popular type of all — the underwire bra.”  Dr. Joseph Mercola

How familiar are you with the negative effects of wearing a bra?

My mouth will speak words of wisdom; the utterance from my heart will give understanding. (Ps. 49:3; NIV)

Whew, I already know that some may want to throw rotten tomatoes at me for this post.  Even though the subject is seldom discussed, it still will be quite unpopular with most women.  I’ve had concerns for years about wearing underwire bras.  I’ve read several articles about the wire causing constriction of the lymph flow.  I also recall the personal pain and discomfort I felt years ago when I wore underwire bras.

Last year I listened to a teleseminar by Dr. Ben Johnson (M.D., D.O., and naturopathic doctor) where he spoke about how wearing a bra causes the breast tissue to be inflamed due to heat being trapped in the tissue.  He gave several other scientific and medical reasons of why wearing a bra is not a healthy thing to do.

Last week, Dr. Joseph Mercola posted an article entitled, “Can Wearing Your Bra Cause Cancer?”  Wow!  I was most intrigued.  Here are just a couple sentences from his article:  “Many physicians and researchers now agree that wearing a tight fitting bra can cut off lymph drainage, which can contribute to the development of breast cancer, as your body will be less able to excrete all the toxins you’re exposed to on a daily basis. Aluminum from antiperspirants, for example, is one potentially dangerous source of toxins that can accumulate if your lymph drainage is impaired.”  (Hopefully most of our readers know NOT to use an antiperspirant deodorant.  If you have questions about that, feel free to contact me.)

Dr. Michael Schacter stated, “Over 85 percent of the lymph fluid flowing from the breast drains to the armpit lymph nodes. Most of the rest drains to the nodes along the breast bone. Bras and other external tight clothing can impede flow.  The nature of the bra, the tightness, and the length of time worn, will all influence the degree of blockage of lymphatic drainage. Thus, wearing a bra might contribute to the development of breast cancer as a result of cutting off lymphatic drainage, so that toxic chemicals are trapped in the breast.”  Thought provoking?

One more tidbit from the article and I’ll quit.

Bra Wearers May Face Up to 125-Fold Higher Cancer Risk

Medical anthropologists Sydney Singer and Soma Grismaijer — authors of Dressed to Kill: The Link Between Breast Cancer and Bras — conducted a study of over 4,000 women, and found that women who do not wear bras have a much lower risk of breast cancer.

Their findings included:

  • Women who wore their bras 24 hours per day had a 3 out of 4 chance of developing breast cancer
  • Women who wore bras more than 12 hour per day, but not to bed, had a 1 out of 7 risk
  • Women who wore their bras less than 12 hours per day had a 1 out of 52 risk
  • Women who wore bras rarely or never had a 1 out of 168 chance of getting breast cancer
