Rejection? NOT!

“You see things; and you say ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say ‘Why not?’” George Bernard Shaw
Were you ever told, “You’ll never be able to do that?”
It is pleasant to see dreams come true, but fools will not turn from evil to attain them. (Prov. 13:19; NLT)
On Monday, I wrote about a graduation speech that started out with the word “rejection.” Very unusual for a graduation speech. Rejection is such a powerful word. Unfortunately, our culture tends to give it the wrong kind of power. Just as Justin explained in his graduation speech, the word should propel us to overcome. But so often, like it’s cousin “failure,” it causes us to give up.
What if you were born with multiple birth defects? Like only two fingers on each hand, for example. What if the ripe age of 3, you had to undergo surgery to have both legs amputated just below the knee. Rejection? Rejected by God? Rejected by your parents? Rejected by your peers? So many opportunities to give up — to throw a perpetual pity party. What if someone saw in you the potential to be a concert pianist? What kind of black humor is that? Can’t even reach the pedals on the piano.
Watch today’s Link of the Day. You will find it almost unbelievable. Certainly inspirational. 23-year-old, Hee Ah Lee certainly deserves a prominent place in the overcomer’s hall of fame. As you watch this, don’t fail to notice Hee Ah’s mother. She undoubtedly has earned a place in the hall of faith.
As I write this, I am struck by the picture of life this social networking phenomenon known as YouTube has become. Like life itself, it can be filled with trash or treasure. There is indeed a lot of trash to be found on YouTube. But there are also nuggets of pure gold. We get to choose which to take in. I have featured several overcomer stories in past DGs. I find that they help me see that God intends that we have no limitations. It’s up to me to face my fear and step out of my goofy little box and be all that God has designed me to be.
See you at the top?

Father, thank You for Hee Ah. Thank you for the life lessons that she can teach us. Grant us the grace to take it all in and allow it to change out lives.
