Just Say No!

“The whiter the bread, the faster you’re dead.” Unknown
How can I do better at saying “NO?”
Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. (Proverbs 23:3; NIV)
What food is deceptive you ask? Ah, land of the “whites!” White bread, white rolls, white pasta, white rice, white potatoes, and pastries and other foods made from white flour make up the majority of the “white” no-no list. None of those foods will aid you on your journey to optimal health. In reality, they will chip away at your overall health, contributing to inflammation in the body, which in turn sets the stage for illness and disease. “White” foods also cause an increase in blood sugar levels contributing greatly to the epidemic proportions of diabetes that we witness on a daily basis.
White flour products have been stripped of almost all nutrients that God originally included in the wheat kernel. Food manufacturers remove the outer bran layer of the grain that contains fiber and necessary B vitamins. Then the nutrition-packed wheat germ is extracted. High temperatures are used in the milling process resulting in oxidation of the grain. This oxidation actually turns the grain into a grayish color. Hmmm, not very appealing. So, what’s left but to use bleaches to make the grain into a “pretty” white that will be attractive to the consumer? All of those processes make a “white” flour product that is also very constipating to the body. Plus, it’s robbing precious minerals from you that your body desperately needs to be healthy.
Begin reading the labels on the bread that you eat. If the list has more than five or six ingredients, begin looking for another bread. Sprouted grain breads are some of the best breads you can eat and they are more readily available now. Look for “Ezekiel” bread found in the frozen food section of your grocery store or health food store. Spelt bread is also an acceptable bread to eat. It’s made from spelt flour that is a whole grain and contains higher amounts of protein than whole-wheat flour. These breads are dense and hearty and one slice is very satisfying.
Know that there are healthier alternatives available so that you don’t have to rob your health by eating the damaging while flour products. You can make the choice to feed your body food that will contribute to life, instead of food that will bring dis-ease.
