“All meaningful and lasting change starts first in your imagination and then works its way out.  Imagination is more important than knowledge.”  Albert Einstein

As you imagine a preferred future, what does it look like?

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.  (Matt 17:20; NKJ)

As you meditate on today’s Bible verse, it seems to suggest that only our faith or the level of our belief limits us.  It has been said that our beliefs (ergo, our limitations) come from what we and others around us have experienced in the past, i.e., memories.  Memories are always a picture of the past, and as long as you continue to look at the past you will continue to repeat the past.

How do you break out of this cycle?  Perhaps that’s one of the reasons God gave us the ability to imagine a preferred future.  Yes, we can use our imaginations incorrectly to imagine a future that is in conflict with God’s Word, but that doesn’t mean we should be afraid to imagine.  We are responsible to choose to imagine godly things and to imagine things that will build our faith rather than tear it down.

Think about it…every new idea and every invention came from someone’s imagination.  Dr. James Richards has said that the imagination is a “window to a future without limits.”  Interesting thought, isn’t it?

What if we were encouraged to imagine what it would be like if the things God said about us and the promises He made in His Word were happening right now?  If we were able to vividly see and feel those things through our imaginations, do you think we might begin to actually believe them?  What do you suppose would be the outcome of such foolishness?  (Hint-reread today’s verse.)

Prayer Power
Lord, we thank you for our ability to imagine.  Forgive us for those times when we use that blessing incorrectly…or not at all.  Restore that incredible gift to us again and guide us as we use it to move those self-imposed mountains that appear to stand in our way.
