“You’ve got to find what you love.  And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers.  Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work.  And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.”  Steve Jobs

Why do so many people hate what they do for a living?

It is the one and only Holy Spirit who distributes these gifts. He alone decides which gift each person should have.  (1 Cor. 12:11, NLT)

Was drudgery part and parcel of the Adamic Curse?  I think not.  If it were, everybody would be subject to a life of tedious, menial, distasteful, dull, and unpleasant work.  There would be no exceptions.  But I’m sure we all know a number of people who absolutely love what they do for a living.

Most would agree that we who are still here, were placed on this earth for a specific task.  We were given gifts and talents that made the accomplishment of our “call” feasible.  Do you think anyone, who is sure that they are working at that which is part of their calling, would consider that work drudgery?

Could happiness and fulfillment in a person’s work life be as simple as determining their life purpose and then take steps toward that end?  Doesn’t that seem to be congruent with what Steve Jobs was suggesting in his quote?

What keeps people in the “rat race?”  Is it largely due to the fact that they must “earn a living?”  Does that mean that God could (or would) not provide for them if they were answering the call and design on their life?

I’m not offering answers today…just questions.  Questions to make you think about God, about His incredible love for you, about His call on your life, about your faith in His ability to care for your every need, etc.  Thinking about some of these things just might provide the impetus for you to break free from that rat race and join the human race whose chief end is to glorify God.

Not practical?  Take it up with God.

Prayer Power
Lord we all know in our hearts that You have placed us on this earth for a purpose.  Forgive us for not taking the time and effort necessary to determine what that call on our life really is.  Help us to understand that it’s never too late.  And that You’re committed to make a way for us as we pursue our God-given destiny.
