“If you want to achieve success beyond your imagination, there is a secret ingredient that all highly successful people have, whether they have ever put a name to it or not. It is that special ability to get their mind in the zone, free from the usual mind-chatter, where they can embody all that they know, and deal with the present moment as it unfolds, without distraction. Having all of your energy and ability available to you, focused on what you are doing right here-right now gives you that edge.” Dr. Robert Puff
Which aspect(s) of your life, i.e., your career, your finances, your marriage, or your family, has the highest priority in terms of your time and attention? Why?
It is not that we think we can do anything of lasting value by ourselves. Our only power and success come from God. (2 Cor. 3:5; NLT)
As wellness coaches, Sharon and I frequently talk about wholistic health, wholistic medicine, wholistic healing approaches, wholistic views of the body, etc. However, the concept of wholistic success was a new one on me when I first heard it this past Sunday morning. I was watching a video of Dr. Jim Richards (Impact Ministries) from his most recent (10/30/09) Friday night service (see Today’s Link below) when he described the term wholistic success (aka wholistic prosperity).
Richards’ definition of prosperity includes far more than just money. In addition to the prosperity in finances, his definition embraces prosperity in health, prosperity in relationships, prosperity in ministry or career, etc. Read more on Wholistic Success…
“We love food and fellowship, and it seems that loving someone usually means heaping piles of food on them.” Todd Starnes
How is your self-control when eating at a church or other other social function?
…and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive. (Prov. 23:2,3; NIV)
I recently read an interview of Todd Starnes in a Christian publication. Todd has written a book entitled, They Popped My Hood and Found Gravy on the Dipstick. Perhaps you’ve read it. I’ve not read it yet but the interview was very interesting. Todd is a reporter for Fox News Radio and struggled with his weight for years. Weighing in at 300 pounds, he was “lethargic, not sleeping well, and developed a terrible cough.” His near-death experience due to his aortic valve shutting down brought him face-to-face with the reality that he must make some life-style changes. “While hair dyes have always been a witches brew of chemicals, two specific compounds may be responsible for the increased risk of non-Hodgskin’s lymphoma and other cancers.” Bonnie Jenkins
How aware were you of the dangers of hair dye?
Gray hair is a crown of glory; it is gained by living a godly life. (Prov. 16:31; NLT)
For those of you who know me (or have looked at our latest picture), you know that I am no longer a brunette. I was actually a blonde as a child. A number of things changed around puberty including my hair color. The older I became, the darker my hair grew. Then in my forties, I noticed some “white paint” in my hair. Where did that come from? My father’s hair was a beautiful silver-white by the time he turned 50. (BTW, that’s his picture.) It looked nice on him, but I wasn’t ready for that.
However, since I was fighting to regain my health when my hair began turning gray, I figured coloring my hair with hair dye would not be a wise idea. I can’t say it has always been an easy decision. As I’ve looked at pictures of myself during the last several years, it still comes as a shock when I see how “silver” I really am. I’ve blamed it on my parents. Folks say that their kids “give them gray hair.” Well, with all of the physical pain and health issues my parents have gone through, I told them they were “giving me gray hair.”
Even though I didn’t have substantiated research to prove my theory that hair dye was dangerous, I still began encouraging my friends to re-think their hair dye. After all, our scalp is porous and those chemicals used in hair dye had to be going somewhere other than just the hair roots! Read more on Dangers of Hair Dye…
“Trust is like a vase…once it’s broken, though you can fix it the vase will never be same again.” Unknown
How do your react when your trust is violated?
Do not plot against your neighbors, for they trust you. (Prov. 3:29)
Are any of you old enough to remember when there were general categories of people that you felt you could trust? You know, you could pretty much trust your pastor, your doctor, your attorney, etc. Of course, there were exceptions, but the exceptions were so rare, and word got around about those who were untrustworthy so quickly, that a person was almost forced to walk in integrity in his/her dealing with other people. The exceptions were so rare, that you didn’t even consider that a person from one of those “trusted” categories might be untrustworthy.
It used to be that handshakes were binding. People believed what they read in the newspapers. There was never any question about the integrity of a story that appeared in the newspaper. Never a question about bias, or slant, or a self-serving point-of-view. There was a time when people generally trusted that the state and federal governments were out to protect them and look out for their best interests. Take a pill? Eat a certain food? Hey, if Uncle Sam says it’s safe — it’s safe! After all, they have obviously tested it. Read more on Troubled Times…
“Fluoride is more poisonous than lead and just slightly less poisonous than arsenic.” Michael Schachter M.D.
How aware are you regarding the dangers of fluoride?
But after the men had eaten a bite or two they cried out, “Man of God, there’s poison in this stew!” So they would not eat it. (2 Kings 4:40: NLT)
Have you read any of the controversy surrounding the fluoride issue? I’ve believed for years that the addition of fluoride to our drinking water and toothpaste wasn’t a good idea. I stopped using toothpaste containing fluoride years ago. However I really wasn’t aware of the numerous dangers caused by fluoride ingestion.
Dr. Russell Blaylock’s latest newsletter addresses this issue in a minor way. That caused me to do a little research resulting in a great deal of substantiation from other trusted sources on the dangers (and myths) of fluoride. Dr. Blaylock says that fluoride is not only dangerous to our dental health but to our overall health in general. Read more on Is Fluoride Dangerous?…
“Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have found that 15 brands of powdered infant formula are contaminated with perchlorate, a rocket fuel component detected in drinking water in 28 states and territories.” Dr. Joseph Mercola
What do you suppose is in a baby’s formula?
“Take this child home and nurse him for me,” the princess told her. “I will pay you for your help.” So the baby’s mother took her baby home and nursed him. (Exod. 2:9; NLT)
This is not meant to be a treatise on breast feeding versus formula feeding. Although, if you’ve read even a few of our posts, you can well ascertain that we believe breast feeding to be best for both the baby and the mother. Today’s article comes from a recent post by Dr. Joseph Mercola that I felt should be shared. We know so many mothers with small children. Some of them, for many reasons, are using formula to feed their babies. I, at least want them to be as well informed as possible regarding their choice.
The article begins by saying, “Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have found that 15 brands of powdered infant formula are contaminated with perchlorate, a rocket fuel component detected in drinking water in 28 states and territories.
The two most contaminated brands, made from cow’s milk, accounted for 87 percent of the U.S. powdered formula market in 2000, the scientists said. The CDC scientists did not identify the formula brands they tested.”
According to the report, “Perchlorates are salts derived from perchloric acid, which are used in the defense and pyrotechnics industries. The military has used perchlorate since the early 1900’s, and it’s a component of solid rocket fuel, among other things. Most people are exposed to perchlorate through their diet, in the form of contaminated water and/or foods. But infant exposure may be far greater than that of adults, especially if they are fed infant formula, as the toxin may be present in both the formula and/or the milk or water used to prepare it.”
Even though all commercially prepared formula was contaminated to a certain degree, it appears that milk-based brands were far more contaminated that the others tested. No specific brand names were given. According to the CDC, perchlorate affects your health by blocking the thyroid gland from taking up iodine which is necessary for the production of thyroid hormones. Iodine deficiency leads to decreased amounts of thyroid hormone circulating in the blood which can create hypothyroidism. They go on to say that at high doses “perchlorates may affect fetal development, so the mother’s toxic load can also place the child at risk.”
Dr Mercola continues the article with expounding on the dangers of soy formula. He believes that it may be the absolute worst thing to feed your baby! His article (today’s link) will tell you why that is. He does give a recommendation for making your own healthy formula. I’ve known of some parents to do this and they were quite pleased with the results. I’ve also known of a number of parents to use goat’s milk for their children with added fat supplementation. They too found this to be a satisfactory alternative to commercial formula.
We encourage you to be empowered with information to feed your children in the most healthy manner possible.
Father, we thank You for giving life. May we seek Your wisdom for the best way to care for our children.

“Using the Shots of Joy approach which I discovered through seven years of care-taking my elderly mother who is now in heaven, I transformed my relationship with the person who was my greatest challenge. What began as a struggle with the most impossible relationship in my life ended up with Mom becoming my best friend.” Veronica Karaman
How are the family dynamics at your house during Thanksgiving and Christmas? Could they be improved?
A troublemaker plants seeds of strife. (Prov. 16:28a; NLT)
From time to time I have the opportunity to bring to your attention a program that I feel is something you should know about. This is just such an occasion.
Sharon and I are friends with Veronica Karaman, largely through our church and through Regent University. Veronica is a golf professional, having taught thousands of people how to connect to their power in the golf swing. She is an educator, and as such wrote and delivered a program (“God’s Way to an A”) in several venues which trained over 6,000 students to become academic champions. Veronica is also a certified life coach where she has specializes in helping people connect with their most authentic self and live powerfully from that place. She sums it all up by saying, “For the last 25 years I have been passionate about identifying and releasing the true champion in people.” Veronica currently lives in Pinehurst, NC.
Veronica tells me that she has written a new program directed at ministering to family dynamics challenges (which are typically exacerbated during the holiday season), and has seen incredible fruit come from those who have been exposed to her new and very innovative approach to an age-old problem. She claims that this program is for anyone who has stressful family dynamics and would like to create some fresh family joy this Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season.
Veronica writes, “My approach to helping people create fresh relationship connections is all based on the champion mindsets I learned as a professional athlete. As a golfer, I had to learn how to quickly release a bad shot and set up for a brand new shot within just a few minutes. I also learned that the best place to hit a great shot is from the most impossible lie.” She goes on…”It’s all about your mindset. If you get stuck behind a tree, you can give up, or you can create a shot. It’s the same with people. You can’t change the reality of your situation or the past, but you can create a brand new shot — right now.”
If you recognize the family situations that Veronica is talking about, I encourage you to take the less that two minutes it takes to watch the video below, and then to go to today’s link and register to join Veronica for a free 60-minute teleclass on Wednesday, November 18 at 1:00 pm EST (10a PST) to create fresh family joy this holiday season. (Can’t make it live? No problem, register anyway and Veronica will send you the recording.)
Father, I ask that you bless Veronica as she reaches out to those folks for whom the upcoming holidays are anything but times of joy. Draw to her those that would be willing to try something new in their pursuit of different results.

“There are generations yet unborn whose very lives will be shifted and shaped by the moves you make and the actions you take today.” From “The Butterfly Effect” movie
How significant is your life? Do you make a difference?
Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esth. 4:14b; NKJ)
One of my favorite senders of regular email (and I get a lot) is from Mac Anderson of SimpleTruths.com. If you’ve been with us for any length of time, you’ve seen me pass along his material, especially his movies, a number of times. I find them always to be short, sweet, and poignant.
Well, as you’ve probably already guessed, he’s done it again with the 2.5 minute movie, “The Butterfly Effect.” Now, I’ve heard the phrase, the butterfly effect, bantered around for years, and thought I understood it until I looked it up in Wikipedia. They offered a very erudite definition as follows, “The butterfly effect is a phrase that encapsulates the more technical notion of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in chaos theory. Small variations of the initial condition of a dynamical system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system.”
If you understand that, bully for you! I think it means that a butterfly flapping its wings in one part of the world will create an effect that will be felt half-way around the globe, or something like that. But I’m sure that Mac’s newest movie will clear all this up for you.
This was especially timely for me, as I am toying with the thought of reviving my Internet course on life purpose or destiny. Do you suppose the receipt of this new movie was a coincidence? Or is it the butterfly effect?
Enjoy the movie and make it a magnificent week!
Father, please guide and direct us to a revelation of our unique life purpose and destiny.

“Previously I have written about the evils of sugar. If you thought that was scary, there is something I believe is actually worse — the artificial sweeteners that are offered by the food industry as a ‘no calorie’ alternative.” Bernie Rosen PhD
How successful are you in sorting out all of the artificial sweeteners (and blends) on the grocery store shelves today?
My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to the taste. In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short. (Prov. 24:13,14; NLT)
I went grocery shopping the other day. I ran out of vanilla extract that I usually buy from my food co-op. I had no success in finding organic vanilla extract or even finding any without corn syrup in the regular grocery store. Why is corn syrup in vanilla extract, anyway? But, back to my topic. As I was whizzing down the baking aisle, my eyes caught a glimpse of the various sweeteners available to the consumer. I made an abrupt stop and began looking at all the choices. Ideal, Sweet Leaf, Sweet Thing, Nevella…I was amazed at the vast array. Read more on Sweetener Confusion…
“Stevia is an all-natural herbal product with centuries of safe usage by native Indians in Paraguay. It has been thoroughly tested in dozens of tests around the world and found to be completely non-toxic.” David Richard
I see my Sweetener Confusion article brought further confusion for some of our readers. I realize I threw out a lot of information and didn’t really “corral” my thoughts about the better sweeteners to use.
I did some more digging. First I will reiterate than under no circumstances do I ever recommend using aspartame or sucralose in any form or fashion, no matter what it’s combined with. They are both deleterious to the human body and frankly, not fit for human consumption.
Now, as we look at the various stevia options it appears that not all of them are something we necessarily want to consume either. <Sigh> Don’t be discouraged though. I’ve attempted to sort through some of the ingredient mumbo jumbo and came out with a recommendation. Read more on Clearing Up Sweetener Confusion…
